2010 Color Forecast

We set out on a journey to explore the Fiber Arts Trail that meanders through Central and Northern New Mexico– a region where the culture and color of Spanish immigration collided with local Native American tradition. The trends for this year are on refocusing– honesty of materials, earth found and artisan made. For the colors of 2010, we built a foundation of "hue" or "color infused neutrals".

About Ultron Forecasts

As designers and colorists, we look to the world around us for inspiration. Nothing escapes our built-in radar for color trends. Our color forecast is based on sensibility and versatility.

  • Nature is always a continual & recurring influence—from colors that are earth bound to the literal translation of “green” design
  • Design has become totally integrated into the global scope. This results in the need to have an ethnically inspired palette.
  • Heritage and tradition will be sources for colors that have historical references.
  • The current attitude of "anything goes" in the fashion world will carry into the new colors. In deciding what is acceptable, beauty becomes the filter for design and color. This will result in the importance of using color combinations versus individual colors.
  • One of the most important trends noticed was redefining “Luxury”. Since today luxury is available to the masses, from Spa towels and bath linens to cashmere fashions, there will be a growing need to define more upscale products. This will be created through the use of sheen, gloss and translucent finishes, as well as use of analogous color combinations. These proprietary finishes will carry a message of sophistication and formal opulence.
